The Third Device

A blog about the iPad.

Fakety faker fake fake.

This is hilarious.

Apparently in Shenzhen you can now buy the “iPed” (say it out loud and try not to giggle), an unabashedly shameless ripoff. It uses an Intel processor powering an Android-based OS, and it’s being marketed in a box that looks shockingly identical to Apple’s.

While you can’t deny that it performs essentially the same functions as Apple’s own device, at a tiny fraction of the cost ($105, and you can probably haggle that down further) … sigh … I dunno man. I dunno.

  1. Hehehe… I’m actually curious to see how well it’s built. Running off Android removes the issues of it being developed in China and having a really crappy UI.

But come on… “iPed” is no better than “iPad”. When the “iPad” was officially announced, it thought it was a Cebuano joke!

If the iPed finds it way to Greenhills or Market Market for around P5k… I would actually consider getting one just for fun!

    • Me too, actually! And then stick it in a stonkin’ expensive Vaja leather case.

  2. i’m no supporter of fake products, specially if its being sold in disguise as an ORIGINAL.

But in this case, iPed is not meant to deceive you. It’s similar, but it’s trying to present itself like the original. To begin with, i never saw the significant advantage of the iPad over the iTouch and iPhone for that matter. The “finger and hand dexterity”, seems to be the only significant novelty of these product, since i keep comparing them to productivity of the MacBook/MBpro.

Now if only for that feature, i’d get my 5 kids one each of the iPed, since i did not expect significant productivity from the iPad. MB/MBpro is another story – that’s a productivity tool

If only for music, videos, games, surfing, picture browsing, FB & twitter – if iPed can do it – like you and John, give me me 7 units for fun!!
